Manor School - Early Years Centre
Early Years Centre
Context:
Manor School Early Years Centre (MSEYC) opened in February 2021 and is situated on Bridge Road in Neasden, close to Mitchell Brook Primary School.
All 24 of the wonderful reception-aged pupils on roll have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and most have a diagnosis of Autism. All pupils attend school on a full-time basis; the school day starts at 8:50 and finishes at 3:20.
There are three classes at MSEYC, these being: Apple Class, Cherry Class and Peach Class. A qualified teacher leads each class and pupils are grouped into classes of eight. The ratio of pupils to adults in each class is 2:1.
Pupils at MSEYC follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework; however, all activities are adapted in order to meet individuals at their unique point of learning. The site is well resourced and boasts an impressive outdoor area which can be used all year around.
As a school, we believe that preparation for adulthood starts in the Early Years! In class, there is a significant focus on supporting pupils to develop functional modes of communication and essential skills for life.
Pupils spend Friday mornings at the main site on Chamberlayne Road; here they enjoy Swimming, Art and PE lessons before returning to MSEYC in time for lunch.
Each class has an assigned Speech and Language Therapist, an assigned Occupational Therapist and an assigned Inclusion Practitioner. Multi-professional working is very well established and this collaborative approach ensures that pupils have the best possible start to their statutory education.
On a day-to-day basis, the site is led by Mala Neves, however, other members of the school’s senior leadership team are frequently on site to support.
Aims:
Our Early Years provision aims to:
- Give each child a happy, positive and enjoyable start to their school journey
- Build upon prior learning by working in partnership with parents, carers, previous settings and a wide range of professionals
- Help each child to establish solid foundations for future learning and development, particularly with regards to functional communication, independence and self-care
- Provide each child with a wide range of new and exciting experiences, thus giving them opportunities to consolidate existing skills and to learn new ones
- Support each child to develop socially, physically, intellectually and emotionally through high expectations, praise and positivity
- Celebrate each child’s personal successes and achievements together with their families and loved ones
- Regularly assess and review the needs and interests of each individual so that learning can be scaffolded effectively
- Promote equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice by ensuring that every child is included and supported regardless of their background.
- Ensure that all pupils are as well-prepared as possible for their transition into Key Stage 1 in September.
