EYFS Curriculum
At Manor School, we recognise our obligation to follow the SEND Code of Practice and honour the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) of every pupil. Pupils entering Manor School in Reception start in our EYFS provision. This follows the EYFS statutory framework.
Learning and Development requirements comprise the seven areas of learning:
A particular focus on the three prime areas is key; the four specific areas are then used to strengthen and apply learning in the prime areas. Moreover, the four Outcome Areas of each pupil’s EHCP and strongly interconnected with the EYFS Prime and Specific areas of learning; by viewing the EYFS areas of learning and development through the lens of each pupil’s EHCP we will be providing for the best possible outcomes.
The Seven Features of Effective Practice (Development Matters 2021) are embedded in our approach to quality-first teaching:
Development Matters informs planning where appropriate, but we aim to prioritise pupils’ needs according to the EHCPs. Development Matters statements support assessment through the EYFS Profile; this is used alongside our bespoke and robust developmental assessment system Small Steps, which incorporates relevant content from a range of sources, including Development Matters.
The Long Term Planners for EYFS follow our “Ready, Steady, Go!” Curriculum which aims to develop pupils readiness for learning in the Autumn Term, ensure that they are on a steady path of progression in the Spring term and then use the Summer Term to prepare them to “Go” to Key Stage One. Unit Planners are available which help identify key skills in each term and to help make clear the links between the EHCP outcomes and the seven areas of learning. In addition to working on the seven areas of learning every day at the Manor School Early Years site pupils also have the opportunity to visit the Manor School Main site once a week to undertake PE, Swimming and Art sessions. This further broadens their learning opportunities, allows them access to additional facilities and supports pupils in becoming familiar with the main school site which aids their transition to Key Stage One.
