Manor School's journey to Rights Respecting excellence!
In June 2024, four students from Manor School met with a representative from UNICEF to discuss the school's progress toward the Silver Rights Respecting Schools Award. This conversation, held via Zoom, highlighted the incredible efforts of the student council in promoting a positive school environment and raising awareness for important causes.
During the meeting, the students proudly shared their council activities, which include:
- Being members of the school Choir
- Running Art Club
- Assisting in the canteen by serving meals to younger pupils in KS1
- Creating posters for charity events like Christmas Jumper Day, Red Nose Day, and Children in Need
- Leading recycling initiatives, promoting energy conservation, and reducing paper waste
The children also discussed their understanding of children's rights, emphasising the ABCDE of Rights:
- A: Rights are for ALL children
- B: Rights are there from BIRTH
- C: Rights CANNOT be taken away
- D: Rights DO NOT have to be earned
- E: All rights are EQUALLY important
They concluded by discussing how to seek support if they ever feel unsafe, encouraging open communication with trusted adults, parents, or teachers.
Following this insightful conversation, Manor School was awarded the Silver Rights Respecting Award—a testament to the students' dedication and the school's commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive community.
